A Keles is a supplier of beautiful jewellery, pouches and other lacework products, which are individually hand made in Turkey, as they have been for many centuries.

Patterns are created by knotting the high-quality silk or cotton thread with a small needle.

The history of Turkish Needlework - or Needle Lace - goes back to the roots of Turkish traditional hand crafts and society. The flower designs, many of which you can see in the A Keles Collection, go back to a time when women would make keepsakes for their husbands in times of war.

On the photograph, right, you can see that men would traditionally wear Needle Lace in elaborate headbands. In the rich colours of the Turkish landscape, the flowers would act as a camouflage - in the way that the British army today still uses leaves as camouflage.

Women, meanwhile, would use Needle Lace as a way of thinking about their husbands and loved ones. The needlework is made with love - still today - and A Keles is bringing Needle Lace to a new generation as a way of keeping traditions and traditional handcrafts alive.
